Our Story
The story of Monica’s Place began with a question that weighed upon the hearts of a few local parents of children with disabilities: What will happen to our children when we can no longer care for them? After extensive searching for an answer, in the end these parents discovered a difficult reality – residential options for their children were scarce and, even more so, very few of these options reflected the love, dignity, and respect that they knew their children deserved. As the saying goes, “necessity is the mother of invention” and so instead of being complacent with this discovery these parents instead decided to gather other compassionate members of their local community and set out upon a mission to build what did not exist. Together with these members of the community and driven by hope, determination, and zeal, they founded a nonprofit organization: Monica’s Place. At Monica’s Place their goal has been to build a home where not only their children but also where other people with disabilities can be cared for as well as being celebrated, empowered, and given every opportunity to grow in independence and joy.
